A beautiful, decorative Schiedmayer, built by a world renowned maker using the finest woods and materials. The piano resided in Rathfarnham for the last 30 years and was owned by a gentleman who was an excellent piano player and had the instrument regularly tuned and played it daily for hours. It is completely rebuilt including new Roslau strings, tuning pins, Abel hammer shanks and heads, schimmed soundboard, gilded frame, and new action felts, bushings, and buckskins. This amount of work means the piano will play on for centuries more and become a true family heirloom.
The case veneer is Burr Walnut, currently unrestored, but soon we will strip the case and French Polish it several times, as their is significant sun fade on one side. If you are player who is just after high quality sound and not put off by sun fade on one side of the case, then the piano can be sold for 1500 less than the asking price.
This Schiedmayer has a full, rounded, powerful tone, with presence and volume when required, and is responsive for its great age on account of the rebuild it underwent. The original ivory keys are good overall, but some have yellowing. They can be left on, if that is the new owners wish, or can be removed and replaced with new key tops.
The hand sculptured carvings on the front sides of the piano give the instrument a great look and are typical of the finest pianos built in that era. We removed the castors and polished them up. They are very well made and the piano moves well on them.
When pianos are rebuilt, the hammer heads are generally replaced, but with this Schiedmayer the entire hammer mechanism is replaced throughout, as well as leathers and buckskins. This job has given the piano a greater level of response and the piano is a pleasure to play and capable of keeping up with the advanced player. Schiedmayer came before the great makers and represent the evolution of the piano in the golden age of instrument making.
